-=({SQUAREFONT})=- ~~~~~~~~~~ By: Steven Rhodes (A.K.A. Protoform) tyranos@mailcity.com VERSION 3 1. DISCLAIMER ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you use this soundfont you agree not to hold the creator responsible for any problems caused by this soundfont to your computer or your sound card. You shouldn't have any problems with it. It seems to work fine on my computer but if anything bad happens to your computer don't blame me. In other words: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! 2. REQUIREMENTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -A computer. -Some MIDI files. -An Sound Blaster 32 or 64 card with 512k DRAM. Preferably a AWE64 since that's what I used to make this soundfont. 3. INSTALLATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Unzip the SQUARE.ZIP file into a directory. I Recommend using WINZIP which can be found at www.winzip.com 2. Click on the AWE CONTROL option in the START menu. It should be located in PROGRAMS and then the Sound Blaster AWE 32 or in the Sound Blaster AWE 64 directory depending on which one you have. 3. Click on the SYNTH tab. 4. Go to the AVAILABLE SYNTH: option and click on the tab and click on USER SYNTH. 5. Click on BROWSE and click on the directory that you unzipped the SQUARE.ZIP file and double click on a file called SQUARE.SF2 If you can't see it in the directory you could click on the LIST FILES OF TYPE: option and click on the ALL FILES option. 6. Click on the APPLY button and your set to go. 4. ABOUT THIS SOUNDFONT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The main reason that I constructed this soundfont was because I just got sick of listening to normal instruments that came with the sound card. I also wanted to make a soundfont for Final Fantasy 7 and thought it would be cool if you could use the instruments out of Squaresoft's Super Nintendo games and SQUAREFONT was born. The games that I ripped the instruments from were Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy V, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. This soundfont is also universal for playing just about any midi file based on Squaresoft games. You can find a couple at www.rpgamer.com or fly.to/doom The Midi files that are included with this soundfont came out of Final Fantasy 7 meaning that I take no credit for the making of these midi files. The credit goes to the people that wrote the music for FF7. 5. INSTRUMENTS REPLACED ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is the list of instruments that have been replaced. END NOTES. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please don't E-Mail me about problems to do with this soundfont because I probably already know and don't ask about updates because when it is updated you will probably see it on Zophar Domain or at my website http://fly.to/doom The main problem with the soundfont is that the instrument's pitches are a little bit higher that the instruments that came with the sound card which is the main reason that some midis might not sound right. Since it is going to take me a while to make a list on what has been updated I might place a list on my webpage in the future. UNTIL NEXT TIME... -STEVEN RHODES 1999
